Western Australian police have released footage of a man climbing over a wall near a Perth home where a seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on Boxing Day.
The girl went to bed at her home in Ellenbrook, in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs, as normal on Sunday evening.
The next morning, on Monday, she told her parents she had been sexually assaulted during the night.
West Australian police have been searching an area between Tonkin Highway, The Broadway and The Promenade for clues.
On Wednesday evening, investigators released CCTV footage showing a man wearing shorts and a T-shirt walking near a wall with a wooden fence about 12.30am on Monday.
The man can be seen looking around, before he climbs the wall and peers over the fence.
He walks away and then returns a few minutes later, carrying a backpack, and jumps over the fence.
Police said investigators believe the man could assist with their inquiries.
The girl’s pyjama top and a window flyscreen were missing from the family home, however Detective Inspector Hamish McKenzie said the flyscreen had since been located.
“We have had some developments overnight … we’ve located the flyscreen that we’ve been searching for within the search area,” he told Nine Radio.
Her pyjama top, which has a gingerbread man wearing a Santa hat pictured on the front, remains missing.
